Let's hope they try to drop down and get that 2nd and fourth and more...... I think they can get someone to cough up a late round first, 2nd, fourth and some more for next year. I know there's an "assigned" value for these picks but i've always thought the Raiders get hosed on these trades.

Title: Re: NFL Draft 2013 - Do we still want Manti T'eo?
Post by: RaiderWildeStyle on January 08, 2013, 07:47:33 PM
T'eo had a pretty bad game in the National Championship.. Definitly not worth wasting our no.3 pick on when we can trade down a few spots and grab later.

Speaking of trading down
I was wondering if anyone had a opinion on the Aussie kid Jesse Williams for Alabama.. Dude plays Defensive Line (area of need) and Saban put him in to play fullback at some goalline situations.

I'd like the pick because he is Australian, but wondering if anyone else thought he was worth trading down and grabbing?

If he has a gator on his back, like you always do at Raiders games (or is it a croc....I'm never sure), it might get caught up on the other players.  ;)

Trade down the pick.  Me personally, I still want Te'o.  I am partial though as I am a ND fan.  However, I think that Te'o is the kind of kid you can build your defense around.  He has the heart of a lion and you can't coach that.  Manti was first projected top 5, now it is top 12.  I say trade the pick and pick him up later in the first round.  If we keep the pick, get Jarvis Jones out of Georgia - he is a beast.

It's just a real tough spot for Reggie to trade down not knowing where T'eo will go/be available.

If this javius jones kid is anything like the pass rusher the broncos selected 2 years back then I wouldn't blink when I pulled the trigger. VPN miller

I want a OL. Someone who gonna help out with Palme prior and McFadden production and we dan get rid of khalif Barnes (move veldheer to the right)

I live in georgia (where he goes) and a lot of georgia fans have said beware of his back problems but he can check out with the doctors than I am good with it just a lot of uncertainty.

I agree but we can't go wrong with drafting for either offensive or defensive lines at this point.  I am leaning towards best player available at the pick at this point.  We must fill some gaping holes on D though.
Title: Story of Monti Te'o girlfriend death apparently a hoax
Post by: Randy on January 17, 2013, 05:54:22 AM
The wrenching story of Notre Dame football star Manti Te'o's girlfriend dying of leukemia - a loss he said inspired him to play his best all the way to the BCS championship - was dismissed by the school as a hoax perpetrated against the linebacker.

Notre Dame said Wednesday night it believes the Heisman Trophy finalist was duped into an online relationship with a woman whose "death" was then faked by the perpetrators of the hoax.

The school made the statement following a lengthy story by Deadspin.com, saying it could find no record that Lennay Kekua ever existed. The website story suggests a friend of Te'o may have carried out the hoax and that the football player may have been in on it.

I don't know which Crocodile jaws i wanna use except I want people to know that Manti T'eo is the bigger clown

Manti T'eo giving a Fake Name >>>> Rolando McClain giving a fake name

I'm usually one not to judge a man for what he does off the field as long as he shows up and does his job on the field. But this is just sick going around and I don't believe for a second he was part of a hoax. He is on record saying he met his dying girlfriend.

PS: I have a 2nd facebook profile for an imaginary girlfriend... her name is Mia Luufthan and it's a picture of a girls left hand.
But I've never used Mia as a stepping stone to help show that I am a good guy when she's on her deathbed and I have a tribute game to honour her life.

LMAO!

Reggie won't take him anyway, not with this regime.  They were already burned with Rolando's dumb ass.  Al wouldn't have cared one bit though, he could have said aliens abducted him....not Reggie though....

According to mock drafts recently, Star Lotulelei (DT, Utah) looking at the #3 pick, Raiders.  I am good with that.  looks like Jarvis Jones might go #2.

Glad your ND rose colour glasses allows u to see logically MattyRAIDER

I think the big fanfare with his draft stock being a top 5 pick was 70/30 talent to marketability

Now with his credibility gone his draft stock will slip but I still think he is a 1st round pick.

My allegiance as a Notre Dame football fan goes much further than one player.  He showed in the Bama game he has a lot of work to do in regards to playing up to better talent.  Like I said, at this point I want NO ONE with questionable character.  It appears those days will be gone with Reggie at the helm. (IMO, a good thing)

If we go best player available at our pick we can't go wrong, but I am hoping for some big time help on both sides of the line and in our secondary in this draft.

I see this ridiculous situation as a sign the Raiders are moving forward. Not long ago, this kind of shit happened every year with the Raiders. This shit has Raiders written all over it. It's JaMarcus in its size and insanity. (JaMarcus is now an adjective.) But, it didn't happen to us, it happened to someone else. The guy had the grace to get caught BEFORE we drafted him. Now, whoever we draft can still get caught with coke and strippers, or go all Darrell Russell on a woman and even videotape it, or whatever ... but we dodged a bullet this time (ooh, a McClain reference!). I see that as a positive sign. Anytime crazy shit happens to another team, I breathe a sigh of relief.

Here's a player I think has the potential to add to our soon-to-be depleted D-line. Has great hands & frame that can be built upon entering the NFL. Hypothetically if we don't move down( which I think is the best choice given the opportunity). :

I also like a Jarvis Jones pick if we keep our 3rd.

Looks good from that description, but ESPN's Todd McShay puts him outside the top 10 in the 1st round due to "character baggage" (arrested in his Freshman year for possession of under 2 ounces of Marijuana). You know Reggie is concerned about character. You knows how he would feel about the marijuana arrest? Apparently he hasn't had any issues since that one.

On the other end, Mel Kiper has Moore going to the Jaguars with the 2nd pick in the 1st round:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/story/_/id/8916826/2013-nfl-draft-mel-kiper-second-mock-draft

In other mock drafts I've seen him going to the Eagles and Browns. McShay has him dropping to #13 (Tampa Bay) due to the character issues. Seems like he'll definitely go in the 1st half of the 1st round though.

I didn't know about his criminal past. That will become a factor in where he's drafted. I know McClain had run-ins with the law when he was younger & I thought it was a chance at taking him in the 1st but I figured if his play on the field out weighed that then it was worth it...lol Obviously NOT! Can't have another disappointment taken with a high pick let alone any pick. If that is the case, no matter how long ago it was, we don't need it on our team. Thanks Randy, for the extra info.

I'd rather we trade our pick for additional picks Randy. We've only got 6 picks (not counting any supplementary picks that may come our way) and that isn't enough to fill all the holes we currently have.

I hope not.  I am not sold on this kid.  We need help everywhere - both lines, secondary, LBs....regardless of where you stand on Palmer or Pryor for our QB, we have 2 serviceable QBs for the time being.  IMO, we need help elsewhere.

Title: Number of draft picks per year - Reggie McKenzie vs Al Davis
Post by: Randy on March 12, 2013, 10:05:05 PM
Green Bay Packers Draft History (# of picks each year Reggie McKenzie was there) - compared with how many picks the Raiders had during those years with Al Davis picking.

2011 - Packers 10 picks (Raiders 8 picks)
2010 - Packers 7 picks (Raiders 9 picks)
2009 - Packers 8 picks (Raiders 6 picks)
2008 - Packers 9 picks (Raiders 5 picks)
2007 - Packers 11 picks (Raiders 11 picks)
2006 - Packers 12 picks (Raiders 7 picks)
2005 - Packers 11 picks (Raiders 7 picks)
2004 - Packers 6 picks (Raiders 9 picks)
2003 - Packers 9 picks (Raiders 10 picks)
2002 - Packers 6 picks (Raiders 8 picks)
2001 - Packers 6 picks (Raiders 7 picks)
2000 - Packers 13 picks (Raiders 6 picks)
1999 - Packers 12 picks (Raiders 7 picks)
1998 - Packers 8 picks (Raiders 9 picks)
1997 - Packers 8 picks (Raiders 6 picks)
1996 - Packers 8 picks (Raiders 7 picks)
1995 - Packers 10 picks (Raiders 7 picks)
1994 - Packers 9 picks (Raiders 6 picks)

Totals for those 18 years:

Packers: 163 picks (average 9 picks per year)
Raiders: 135 picks (average 7.5 picks per year)

More important would be how many of those picks were successful. You can look that up yourself here:

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I go by 808 raider (from Hawaii). 808 is hawaiis area code. Anyway, as far as the draft goes, I think if we can't get shariif Floyd at 3, then we should trade down for more picks. Honestly, theres not many players in this draft that are first round prospects. And as far as free agency goes, I do have to back mckenzie up in a suttle approch to it. We've all seen what happens in signing big names in free agency (eagles). Look, bottom line is its going to be a rebuilding process in years to come. So we need to make the right decisions for the future of the raiders. Signing 30 something year old players to me, in my opinion, is not what we need to be doing. Sure some veterans can mentor young players, but some vets are just too expensive, and not much left in the tank. Its gonna be ugly for a few years, I hate to say it, cause its been ugly for far too long. But this has to be built from the ground up, so let's just hold tight, and the silver and black shall rise again! Raider nation!

haha...actually Miliner wouldn't be a bad pick talentwise but for me, I'm done with players from Alabama.  We have our own terd in Slowlando McLame but Dre Kirkpatrick (last year's Bama CB) is a bust so far.   Not even to mention 4 players got kicked off the team recently for theft............

so true, but painful to read. and even more painful to watch! they should put all these former raiders together for a reality TV show. something like "bullshit island" or "survivor: al davis."

i used to wonder how matt millen kept his job in detroit after all those shitty drafts, but now it makes sense. matt millen learned his trade from al. saying "i learned everything from al davis" might sound good if you're talking about something other than the draft.

nowhere to go but up from here!

Tough reading but I can't help but wonder if it would have made any difference who we drafted (when we hadn't thrown our picks away). Gallery, Huff, McClain and yes, even Fatass himself, were all regarded as good picks at the time by the majority of "experts". Was it rank bad luck none of them panned out or was it the organisation itself? Were they all doomed the minute they were dropped into the Raider environment with the pressure and $ of a 1st round pick?

I feel it's a mixture of all of the above. Realistically, the odds of use having that much bad luck with top tier picks are very slim. Organization, the never ending bad coaching, too much money, too much pressure to produce for a horrible team... All factors. Analyzing JaCarcass' cerebral substance before drafting him seems to have been neglected as well. Or maybe the experts liked setting Al to take the bad pick? I always wondered if that's why Al took Russell? Merely theory I know. I was hoping for Troy Smith that year honestly.

Oakland Raiders Get Their Guy in D.J. Hayden

http://youtube.com/v/v0NKBPJ313s

http://youtube.com/v/GpB3qxCZQ6M

"...Lo and behold, the Oakland Raiders draft cornerback D.J. Hayden after all. Hayden jumped into headlines as a target by the Raiders earlier this week. Even with DTs Sharrif Floyd and Star Lotulelei falling to 12, GM Reggie McKenzie opted for the corner.

McKenzie stated he was after “the surest of the sure”. Hayden will immediately jump into the starting lineup, where newly signed CBs Tracy Porter and Mike Jenkins will battle it out for the other spot. The Raiders now own a young and potent defensive backfield with the addition of Hayden. Set to play Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers twice a year, the addition will surely help raise the team’s 20th ranked pass defense.

Mostly knocked for his lack of tackling skills, scouts and onlookers at Hayden’s Pro-Day were “awed” by his performance..."

Title: Raiders trade down for the second time - Now have four 6th round picks
Post by: Randy on April 27, 2013, 04:39:21 PM
Raiders trade down for the second time

By Steve Corkran
Saturday, April 27th, 2013 at 9:19 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders traded their fourth-round pick (No. 100) overall for a later fourth-round pick (No. 112) and one of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ sixth-round picks (No. 181).

This marks the second time Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie has traded down in this year’s draft.

Earlier, he traded the No. 3 pick to the Miami Dolphins for the Nos. 12 and 42 picks.

The Raiders used those picks on cornerback D.J. Hayden and offensive tackle Menelik Watson in the first and second rounds, respectively.

The Raiders now have four picks in the sixth round today and one in the seventh. They’re still without a fifth-rounder.

Title: In a rare move, Mel Kiper gives positive grades for the Raiders' Day 2 draft
Post by: Randy on April 27, 2013, 05:36:07 PM
In a rare move, Mel Kiper gives positive grades for the Raiders' Day 2 draft

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. spends months pouring over draft evaluations to come up with opinions and mock drafts.

After the picks, he spends minutes raking through the best and worst drafts from the previous day. In that time, it's a fair assumption that he's listed the Oakland Raiders on the "bad" side of the dual-headed list far more often than any other team.

Based on Day 2 of the 2013 NFL Draft, he put the Raiders in the "good" column, praising the team for taking offensive tackle Menelik Watson in the second round and outside linebacker Sio Moore in the third round.

So we sit at the #5 pick....I think we can all agree we need to draft someone at that spot who is a playmaker and can step in immediately.  If either Clowney, Watkins or Mack is there - grab him.  If not, I am not opposed to trading back.  Love to grab Aaron Donald, DT/Pitt or Mike Evans WR/Texas A&M and recoup another 2nd Rounder.

TP wants out - perhaps we could get back our 5th (wasted on Flynn) or 6th back from the Schaub trade.

I am not opposed to making a run at DeSean Jackson either if the price is right.  Sure he's a diva but so are most WRs in the NFL.  At least he doesn't piss hot on drug tests and/or get arrested.

I agree with everything you said about the draft.  I'm leaning towards Watkins myself...Clowney scares me a little.

I'm personally glad we didn't get Jackson, another head case we don't need....he will fit in great in Washington!!!

The Oakland Raiders need to Draft Wide receiver Sammy Watkins (from Clemson) with the number 5 pick. Don't make a trade with the 49ers so they can get the number 5 pick!!!I can't state this ENOUGH!!! Sammy Watkins will be the NEXT Tim Brown...Lets Do IT!! Don't trade the #5 pick away!!

A long time ago in a Draft far, far away we passed up Calvin Johnson for JaMarcus Russell. We can't make that same mistake again. I agree. Sammy Watkins is the one to get. We have our QB, but he needs a star receiver to throw to. I feel like Watkins is that guy.

I agree. We should take Sammy Watkins at #5.  Dont trade down. Reggie has a hard time with draft picks. I say go for the best available at the fifth pick.

Absolute home run with the #5 pick!

I came unglued when Jax took Bortles, knowing we were getting Watkins or Mack.

The more I watch on Mack, the more excited I get.  Him and Sio and our LB tandem for the future.  Love it.

Out-freaking-standing!

I'm with you on this, Matty. I was hoping Reggie would grab Watkins, but the more I see of Mack, the more I feel like Reggie made the best choice he could make. Even if Watkins was still available, I'd still be happy with this pick. Let's hope Reggie's mojo holds through the rest of the Draft.

Well, I'm thinking there are some pretty decent WR's available....do the Raiders go that route in the draft or try to pick someone off in free agency?  Draft defence maybe?

Ok, 2015 Draft is in a few hours....well...more than a few...1:00 am here....Friday morning...I just got home from work (live in the Eastern Time Zone) and listened to the latest podcast.....great job...I'm on board with Raider Greg when it comes to drafting positions rather than specific players today.  I like the idea of a big ol' D-lineman in the first round....I cannot remember the name of that TE he was mentioning, but I think if available it is a good strategy in the 2nd...with an O-Lineman in the 3rd.....if the TE is gone, then we look at a couple of the WR's available...if the few we like are gone, then go line...either side of the ball with 2nd...

I'd be more than happy with Leonard Williams and the guy WANTS to be a Raider.

I'm hoping for Amari Cooper though.

I really liked the picks at the start of the draft! We're Raider Nation now give me some AC/DC and lets get back to taking what we want on offense. I also like the OG from Florida. Anyone named Mongo is good in my books. Other picks I don't know enough about but that's what Reggie, Captain Jack and the scouts get paid to know. I like the potential of the 2013 draft, the 2014 draft was incredible so they earn the benefit of the doubt to see how this draft class pans out.

Just booked my tickets to celebrate the renaissance of the Raiders at the home opener vs the Bengals. First game live and of course I'm going to be enjoying it from inside The Black Hole.

Go Raiders!

I have to agree with what Calgary Raider has said here, it was an inteligent draft which ensures we will certainly be able to put a lot more points up on the board.  The TE signing was under apreciated and i think having this weapon will be very beneficial to the development of Carr as a QB.  Always good to have a safe short field option.

I too will be making my first trip to Oakland for the home opener and look forward to meeting all you guys in September!

GO RAIDERS!!!

Raiders sitting at the #14 spot...this draft seems pretty deep at the O and D line positions....where should the Raiders be going in their 1st round pick?  The mock draft over at the NFL.com has them going defence with that pick...4 experts have mocked CB William jackson, OLB William Floyd (picked by two experts) and ILB Reggie Ragland.....I have listened to a couple other drafts, and most seem to on the same page.....any thoughts?

Hum......I need to do some reading up on this guy and YouTube watching. Looks like a Darren Sproles lookalike from this photo. He's 5 ft. 10 In. and 205 lbs. according to his Wikipedia page.

Everything I heard about this guy, is that he is a bit undersized, but makes up for it with his ability and aggression.  Big hitter who can cover a lot of ground.  One thing I remember coming across...either on a radio show or on a website...was this guy is either big plays/hits or penalties....will be interesting I suppose!

So, 4 players drafted on the defensive side, 3 on the offensive side including a guard, a QB and a RB....any of one of these guys seem like a horrible pick?  keeping in mind that we can't really know for sure until they get some playing time in....or if they are cut in a week....
