Randy, I cannot thank you enough for all the great advice and information.  I am just packing the bags at the moment as i fly out to a good friend in San Antonio tomorrow before completing my travel in the bay area a week from tomorrow.

I will definitely get myself down to Ricky's on the Saturday evening for sure.  It sounds like the perfect set-up for some beers and a party before game-time on Sunday.

One last little question i would ask, what is the best way to get to the stadium on Sunday?  I will be staying across the bay in San Francisco as we fly in and out of that airport.  Sorry to pester again, just wanna come prepared and not miss any Raider action at the tailgate! :)

Looking forward to meeting you sir!

Hey Nation,

As i have mentioned in some other posts, i will finally be in attendance at the colliseum this coming season for the opener.  However it is also my first time in Oakland/Bay area and just looking for any advice on stuff do bo before Sunday?  Got Friday and Saturday - so looking for best bars to check out, music venues etc?  Just advice from my local nation family?

Cheers folks - see y'all in a few weeks!!

Well, you'll probably want to check out Ricky's Sports Bar in San Leandro, renowned Raiders bar, (Ricky's Sports Theatre and Grill, 15028 Hesperian Blvd • San Leandro • CA • 94578 • 510-317-0200). They usually have a rally the night before a home game. They charge a cover charge of $10 or $15 I think....and sometimes they have pay per view fights on the same night as the rally, so if you get there early the cover charge might be higher like $25 to cover the fight. The line to get in starts getting pretty long and slow after about 8pm. Once it fills up, they will only let someone in after someone else leaves, due to their occupancy limit. They have a website (http://www.rickys.com), so you can check ahead of time....but they don't always update their site, so you might want to try calling to see what's happening on the night before whatever game you're going to. They are sure to have a rally the night before the home opener.

The Oakland Airport Hilton (1 Hegenberger Rd.) is also a good place to meet other Raiders fans (at the bar of course). The Raiders used to stay there the night before home games....and they may still do it, I'm not sure. Al Davis had made the place his permanent residence before he passed away.

Berkeley is interesting to check out....up around the University of California campus....Telegraph Avenue between Bancroft and Dwight.

The area around the Coliseum isn't too great....you probably don't want to go exploring around there, other than just going to the game on Sunday.

If you haven't been to San Francisco, you might want to check that out. Just search online for things to do there.

The view is great from the east bay hills. Grizzly Peak runs through Berkeley into Oakland and has panoramic views of the Bay. Skyline Blvd in Oakland has good views too. I think the best views are the stretch of Grizzly Peak between Centennial Rd. and Claremont Rd. They have some scenic turnouts where you can pull in and enjoy the view, take pictures, etc. There are some nice parks up there too. Tilden Park is nice and has picnic areas, a Merry-Go-Round, steam train ride, etc.
