Even after working with all the Raider haters on NFL Network, he's still a true Raider. By far one of my most favorite Raiders pick-ups in my time.

Still wish we had Charles on the team too.

I love this move!!!! Great player, should translate to a great position coach!!  Also, I think this could be a move to retain Nnamdi.

Just read on the book "facebook" Greg Biekert has been retained as our LB coach!!!!

That probably increases the likelyhood that Chucky B is our DC

Quite honestly all i can say is that I am glad this did not take all off season to make decisions on coaches. I am glad we have our main core of coaches and now they can get together an focus on the free agents and upcoming draft. They all should be in an office talking and on the phones with our free agents to figure out deals and looking at videos for FA's.

The bad news (to some) is that we lost 5 coaches from last year's Raiders staff.
The good new is...

we still have Sanjay Lal!

http://www.raiders.com/team/coaches.html

http://www.insidebayarea.com/ci_17196058?source=most_viewed

on a side note....what's up with Willie Brown still being on the Raiders coaching staff? Didn't he announce his retirement about a year ago? I don't remember any statements after that saying he had changed his mind. Does anyone remember?

http://www.ibabuzz.com/oaklandraiders/2010/01/13/brown-im-retiring/

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/578706-oakland-raiders-coaching-staff-overhaul-who-should-go-and-who-should-stay#page/10

WE NEED TO GROOM SANJAY  TO BE THE NEXT HEAD COACH BEFORE ANOTHER TEAM GETS HIM...ITS WHAT THIS TEAM NEEDS...MARK MY WORDS HE IS MOST VALUABLE! ::) ::)

WOW.....ANOTHER RETRED...RECYCLE....RETARD......HE WAS NOT THAT GOOD AS I REMEMBER...ANOTHER YES MAN FOR AL TO TELL WHAT DEFENSE TO USE......NOT LOOKING GOOD FOR US NEXT SEASON...IM NOT SEEING THE GOOD IN THE MOVES BEING MADE HERE.....BUT DID ANYONE THINK A GOOD COACH WOULD COME HERE UNDER AL DAVIS.......I WAS ALMOST SURE JOE BUGEL WOULD BE BACK WITH ART SHELL AS A LINE COACH......WTF RAIDERS?

Well Greg, do you know who the other guy was (Joe Cullen) that the Raiders were reportedly considering for defensive coordinator? When he was with the Detroit Lions, he was arrested for pulling up to the drive-thru window at a Wendy's restaurant....naked. He also was arrested a 2nd time, within the same month, for DUI. Maybe Bresnahan wasn't a bad choice between the two?

http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/9-8-2006-108055.asp

LOOK.....I dont care if he is NAKED or drunk as long as he wins........"Chuckie B." has a HORRIFIC record with the Bungles.......Lets hope he does a better job here with the tallent we have here......Its funny that NONE of the coaching prospects from the playoff teams was even interviewed.......Go figure..... :-\

Gruden was saying good things about him in January 2001:

http://articles.sfgate.com/2001-01-10/sports/17578485_1_raider-staff-raiders-defense-defensive-backfield-coach

and another article...this one from when Gruden hired Bresnahan in January 2000:

http://articles.sfgate.com/2000-01-22/sports/17635935_1_oakland-raider-defensive-backfield-coach-jon-gruden

but then there's this Bengals fan's Facebook page entitled, "Fire Chuck Bresnahan!"

Being the Equipment manager of an opposing team, doesn't mean you played against Hue.

Equipment Manager? I thought student equipment managers were made up for the movies.  I have never seen a student equipment manager, ever

From Raiders.com news page:

Former Raiders Pro Bowl G Steve Wisniewski has joined the Raiders coaching staff as assistant offensive line coach. Wisniewski says, "I’m a Raider for life. The Raiders [are] my first love. I can help in technique, help in mindset and attitude and really push these young men to develop and to be the heartbeat of the team."

I for one am tickled shitless! I love Steve Wisniewski like HellRaider loves King Richard  :P I hope it's not bullshit but that is their "official" page.

One of my all time favorite Raiders. I hope we draft his nephew from Pen State.

Great hire.  Awesome to see the love Steve has for his former team.  What  a heckuva player he was.  Good luck Ski!

I believe Tom Cable had creative control on his staff of coaches. Sometimes with these super young guys who don't have the coaching connects due to their time on the planet (ie Lane) but until Tom comes out and says, "Al made me take on this guy", then the evidence points to the coaches having control (Tom and Hue worked together at UCLA)

& how about Randy Hanson? He was effectively fired after the year 'cause of cable and for doing nothing wrong. He was kept around 'cause duty of care and the Raiders org having to look after the victim.

Look at Hue picking up Saunders. They worked together at Baltimore and Washington.

I'm sure Al and Hue would talk it over and Al would give his opinion.

that rules sucks about being able to deny permission only in the case of HC. It should be extended to coordinator roles imo.

Perhaps the jets value this guy?

i dont like the jags candidate. When was the last time u said 'wow, jacksonville is getting to the qb'

i really want a former player to be our dc. Preferrably a smart linebacker or secondary as those positions play a lot of run and pass defense.

Totally agree! Teams need to loosen up on that rule!

"Scratch Dennis Thurman off the list of candidates to become the next Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator.

The New York Jets denied the Raiders request to interview the defensive backs coach according to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer.

As long as a coach is under contract a team may deny another team’s request to interview them, regardless of whether the position would be considered a promotion unless it’s to become a head coach.

On the surface you’d think Thurman would be steamed the Jets prevented him the opportunity to advance his career, but that’s not necessarily the case.

Glazer added Thurman loves working with Rex Ryan.

Thurman has twice worked with Hue Jackson in the past. The pair were colleagues with the Baltimore Ravens just a few years ago in addition to spending one season together at USC in 2000.

I wouldn't include Sapp in this list...he played hard for us.

Agreed. He played hard. But did he make a difference? Was he worth the money? Compare what he achieved in his time with the Raiders compared to Seymour. Seymour made a difference in his first game with no training camp or even a clue as to what the plays were. He has made an impact that can be seen on the field and in the locker room. Can't say I ever witnessed that with Sapp. That is why I included him on the list.

RaiderSilly also didn't mention Jason Campbell  :'( as a signed free agent.  The fact that crappy coaching couldn't take advantage of the free agent talent shouldn't fall totally on the free agents.

Some were bust and shouldn't have been signed but that is in every organization.
Moss was productive for the Pats
Dominic Rhodes helped out the colts
DeAngelo Hall is still ballin
Ashley Lelie sucked with the hos and should have never been in the league
Aaron Brooks had zero offensive line play
Frye, Losman and Boller were signed as backups.

Al has always taken a chance with the unwanted, outcast and castoffs

So you are saying there is a correlation between good coaching and good players. I agree. And now we are once again getting an unproven coach to try and attract potential free agents. I doesn't fall completely on the shoulders of the free agents. It falls on Al shoulders as he is the one making the decision. Which was my point in the first place. His decisions for free agents are limited to the type of players I listed when this team is doing what it has done for the last seven seasons. Instability of this organization limits who will come here.

Moss was productive for the Pats because they were winning and he was featured. Two things he was not getting here in Oakland which is why he quit on the team.
Rhodes we got knowing he was facing a four game suspension at the start of the season. Before rejoining the Colts this year he was playing in Canada. So good was he that he was out of the NFL.
Hall is an above average DB. Picking off Cuntler is not the sign of greatness. It just proves that you played the Bears this year.
I agree with you totally on Ashley. But that did not stop Al from picking him up did it? Further proving Al's recognition of talent is not what it once was and that when pickings are slim he takes some of the worse.
Brooks had no line this is true. But he was horrible long before he came to Oakland.
Frye, Losman and Boller were signed as backups. But none are of any quality. Again we get table scraps because that is all this team attracts at this time.

The difference is though that the "outcasts" of the 60's and 70's were guys who could play. They were considered outcasts because they were a little eccentric (Hendrix), plain nuts(Matuszak), or just wanted to dress and look how they wanted. The NFL has changed and now they could care less about any of that. If you can play they will figure out how to keep you. Whether you once abused dogs or raped a woman in a bathroom. If you are good, teams find room.

Because of the situation and instability in Oakland our potential free agent list is slim. Yes Al is always willing to shell out the money(one of the great things about Al). But if they are unwilling to come none of that matters. So I say again. You thinking that we simply "replace the players we may lose with free agents" is just not that simple. Losing quality player always hurts. It hurts more when you replace them with sub par free agents like we have in the past.

Jason Campbell wasn't a FA though pal. he had 1 year on his contract... Came here via trade & then signed a 1 year extension.

It's official now, not just a rumor:

http://www.raiders.com/team/coaches.html

So are we still missing a DC or is Ross taking that position?

Looks like we might Bresnahan get  back:

"Former Raiders assistant Chuck Bresnahan and Jaguars defensive line coach Joe Cullen have "surfaced" as candidates for Oakland's defensive coordinator vacancy."

Why the panic RNP.  The superbowl (for that matter the probowl) hasn't been played yet and fans are freaking out.  If players want to leave, let them go and get better players.  No one is irreplaceable.  There is no CBA, the draft hasn't arrived yet.  Be patient and see what the Raiders will be the next time there is a season.

I love how you act as though quality, and I stress the word QUALITY free agents are just clamoring to be an Oakland Raider. History has proven that not to be the case. I proved it to you once before. But you may have missed it so I will show you again.

Here are some of the many free agents that have come to Oakland since the days of Chucky. Randy Moss, Aaron Brooks, DeAngelo Hall, Lamont Jordan, Kerry Collins, Ray Buchanan, Ted Washington, Warren Sapp, Amos Zereoue, Edward Jasper, Dominic Rhodes, Gerard Warren, Jeremy Newberry, Tim Dwight, Javon Walker, Ashley Lelie, Gibril Wilson, Charlie Frye, J.P. Losman, and Kyle Boller, to name a few.

Wow Raidersully... Great effort in proving millernation wrong when you dig deep into the record books about digging up free agents name.

All i see is a bunch of names from the 2003-2009 circa when we were a bad team and a bunch of players who were lining up for a 2nd chance & not lining up for a chance for a ring. (why don't you mention guys like Ted Hendricks and Jerry Rice who signed up to play with the raiders????)

If we'd been the same 5-11 team in 2010 then i would of got on your negative train of thought, but a 8-8 team with a 6 win zero loss in the division... well that screams of a team where a quality free agent is going to go... "hmm i might just put these Raiders over the top"

Al's never had a problem with twisting a guys arm and paying them coin... So money won't be an issue. Just look at Julius Peppers and what franchise he went too.. it was the 2009 bears whom didn't even make the playoffs. Why'd he go there? to work with Lovie Smith and Urlacher. I think this scenario in 2010 will be similar where one more good player will lead to this raiders team having a chance to compete for the 2012 AFC Championship.

Obviously my fingers are crossed that Nnamdi, Seymour, Zach Miller and Michael Bush all stick around to build on the great work Hue Jackson has done for us.

I agree, after this season, I truly believe we have the opportunity to land some quality free agents.

Hue has some connections with past players on teams he has coached and the addition of Saunders might sway some guys on the offensive side of the ball to come over to Oakland.  We can only hope.

These are a bunch of has been, never was, and old washed up free agents the Raiders have had over the past few seasons. All showed up, cashed Al's checks and were either dropped and never heard from again, retired, or remain on the current roster. These are the types of free agents we have been attracting as of late. With the exception of Samson Satele, Richard Seymour, and maybe Tommy Kelly (jury is still out) being free agents that panned out.

No stability does not bring in good free agents. It brings in the list I posted. And last time I checked none of those players had winning seasons with the Raiders. So stop acting as though the quality players we may lose are so easily replaceable. I understand optimism. But you have your head buried in the sand.

I wouldn't include Sapp in this list...he played hard for us.
