GM McKenzie addressing the media today

GM McKenzie addressing the media today
Steve Corkran, BayAreaNewsGroup, Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 at 1:37 pm

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie is scheduled to hold a news conference today in Alameda to address the NFL draft, which begins Thursday and runs through Saturday. The Raiders hold the No. 3 pick in the draft, and McKenzie certainly will shed some insight into whether the Raiders intend to keep that pick or trade down in an attempt to acquire more picks.

Soon after the news conference, we will provide some stories on what McKenzie said, what it means and where the Raiders stand moving forward.

We’ll also post the entire transcript from the question-and-answer sessions with Bay Area media. There also will be Tweets from the news conference, so follow @corkonthenfl and @jerrymcd

Raiders Announce Changes in Personnel Department

and the housecleaning continues...Two fired, two retired.

One of the guys who retired, Kent McCloughan, was with the team for 47 years as a player then scout. He made the following statement:

“I had talked to Al Davis when I turned 65,” said McCloughan, who first joined the organization in the mid-1960s as a standout cornerback, “and he said, ‘Listen, young man: You’re not quitting before I do.’ I owe him a lot. He was so nice to my family and me. We had some great years, including when Ron Wolf was with us. We won a lot of games. I had the opportunity to work 47 years with one team. I enjoyed it so much. I thought Al Davis was an outstanding person and boss. I enjoyed the scouting department, the coaches and players I had the opportunity to work with, and I’ll always be a Raider. I’m going out about as good as a person can go out. You couldn’t have written a better story for me. I have the NFL Sunday Ticket, and I’ll still be watching all the games. I might even come out to training camp. I wish Reggie and the entire organization the best.”

Oakland Raiders add Green Bay Packers' Shaun Herock to their front office

The reorganization of the Raiders personnel department will include the hiring of Shaun Herock, who worked with general manager Reggie McKenzie with the Green Bay Packers.

Herock, 41, is the son of Ken Herock, a former Raiders player and executive who assisted the organization in an advisory role in the time immediately following the death of owner Al Davis last Oct. 8.

P.S. My physical therapist, who is a Packers fan....was just telling me two days ago that he had been reading a Packers blog....about concerns that Reggie McKenzie might raid the Packers scouting staff....since he had fired Jon Kingdon. Looks like they had reason to be concerned.

Here's the blog article he was talking about:

and then their followup blog today...after the news that Herock was going to Oakland:

Reggie McKenzie has strong bond with his twin brother

Lots of interesting stuff to learn about Reggie in this article, such as...

On graduation day at Austin-East High School, Reggie McKenzie was the valedictorian, ranked first in his class. (Twin brother) Raleigh was ranked No. 3. "I know this is hard to believe, but Reggie even ran on the four-by-100 relay team,'' said Sam Anderson, who taught and coached at Austin-East and has known the McKenzies since they were in the eighth grade. "They competed against each other very hard, in everything.''

The brothers share a sly sense of humor and enjoyed putting their nearly identical looks to use. "I taught American Government and they tried to see if they could switch on me," Anderson said.  "I'm not sure why it even mattered _ Reginald was making an A-plus and Raleigh had an A-minus. I think they enjoyed just trying to trick me.''

Raiders owner Mark Davis moving team into NFL's modern era

Davis said he is not courting Los Angeles. He emphatically denied a recent report that he joined Southern California developer Ed Roski, who is chasing a franchise for L.A., at a Clippers basketball game.

"I have Clippers season tickets, just like I have Warriors season tickets, but Ed Roski was not sitting with me," he said. "Why would I do that? I wouldn't. That's not how I plan to do things."

Normally when I see an article by "Bleacher Report" , I just go right on past and keep looking for a good article (because it seems that anyone can write an article for them...and a lot are horrible). For some reason I went ahead and read this one, and it was actually pretty good I thought.

Did anyone notice the little tidbit in this article that said,

"At this point in my career and after careful thought and consideration, I have decided to take a break,” Herrera said...

THE RAIDERS NEED TO KEEP THIS LOSER, SNAKE, LIar, BLOOD SUCKER......... OUT OF ALAMEDA......FOR GOOD! HE IS NOT GOOD FOR THIS ORGANIZATION...... HE IS AND ALWAYS WILL CAUSE RUMORS AND LIES TO FLY AROUND THE ORGANIZATION...... GET OUT HERRERA!

How you wanna bet his "special projects" involve cleaning Al Davis's tombstone, fetching fresh flowers for it, dusting off Al-related memorabilia in Raider HQ, polishing the Al flame thing (including cleaning pigeon crap off it), and monitoring the press for any unfavorable descriptions of Al--to be followed, of course, by confrontations at press conferences?

I mean, if you had a billion-dollar development you were working on--which is what a stadium costs these days--would you want Herrera anywhere near it?

Jerry McDonald says,

"Not sure whether all the glee among fans about longtime Raiders senior executive John Herrera's departure is amusing or sad.

It's certainly misguided."

This article Jerry McDonald wrote is a steaming pile.  Journalistic dick riding at its finest.  So it was "loyalty" that made Herrera into a swarmy, mouthy, all-rumor-denying, Raiders secret-keeping a-hole?

He did what Al told him to do.  A perfect YES man.  Shit on Rich Gannon?  Check.  Alienate the media?  Check.  Piss off Raider Nation time and time again?  Check.  Do you know why we Raider fans LOVE to use the word BUFFOONERY?  Look no further than Johnny boy.

Anyone tries to tell me he was that way because of his loyalty to Al and that in turn excuses his behavior--I'll say that Herrera has ZERO integrity then.  A lap dog.

I'm sorry but John Herrera was the epitome of what was wrong with our team.

If he wasnt a problem then why was he fired?

Oh, didn't you catch that part? He wasn't fired. He "retired". It was a "mutual agreement".  ;)

Two different viewpoints on John Herrera (Jerry McDonald vs Tim Kawakami)
« Reply #76 on: February 17, 2012, 08:46:01 PM »
Jerry McDonald thinks Raider fans "glee" concerning the departure of John Herrera is either sad, amusing, but definitely"misguided":

but I don't think Tim Kawakami feels the same way. He and Herrera haven't spoken to one another in the more than 3 years since their "incident" at Raiders headquarters. Kawakami had some interesting comments in the 3rd part of this blog article concerning Herrera's "retirement". He refers to Herrara as being unprofessional, and a practitioner of "Rage-Spittle PR". He also includes a link to the infamous YouTube video of the incident as well as a link to an article he wrote about it the day after it happened:

1. Tim Kawakami's viewpoint
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2012/02/16/thursday-night-1-2-3-warriors-trade-limits-3-point-contest-woes-a-raiders-exec-departs/

That is just soooo funny to me. No one was saying he was "THE" problem but he was "A" problem and a major one at that. If he wasnt a problem then why was he fired? evidently the fans werent the only ones who thought he was a problem JERRY!!!!!!!!!!!

ITS A GREAT DAY FOR OUR TEAM!!!!!!

Best offseason move so far...per Jerry Mc - .Raiders and senior exec John Herrera have parted ways. Move came from business side, not from Reggie McKenzie, Dennis Allen.
You are damn right..............best move period............Mike Taylor should be next............the only thing better than Herrera leaving would  be to win the SuperBowl..................We wanted change........this is one change this Raider fan is glad to have happen!          ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The guy was an absolute prick.  He was rude and flat out mean to people.  I thought PR people where supposed "to mend fences"  :o

He was the anti-PR guy.

Glad he is gone.
