Thanks brother for this awesome link!  Man, I am really liking McKenzie.  To hear him touch on a few things: he wanted to keep Wheeler (which I would have loved to have kept), that 4-12 is NOT acceptable, getting McFadden back in his comfort zone with power blocking scheme, stadium issues, talent level/performance we hope for and expect on the team, etc -  and for him to explain his vision for the future really excites me.  I know these are common sense type things but these are largely OUR concerns as fans - it's nice to know that Management UNDERSTANDS the problems rather than us speculating that they actually know.  I have said in the past for what he has done is two short seasons just dealing with our cap space situation alone is nothing short of amazing.  Let's go!!!!!!
No problem and I agree with you at 100% about Reggie in this interview. And I appreciate how these guys conducted the interview with tough questions so Reggie can tell it straight to the point. The Raider Nation lately been hearing nothing but crap from the press as if they are the national enquire of football or mediatakeout.com. When you get sick of rumors and lies it's good to hear the words coming from the GM about what's really going on. RUNTS Sports, ESPN, etc. they are saying whatever brings them ratings. Beat-writers can take a laxative now because they are full of Sssssssh.

The Raiders GM stopped by with Bucher and Towny in a two part interview to discuss many different issues with the team. He talks about his reign as GM and what their plans are moving forward. He looks back on discussions and makes a promise to the fans.

Mark Davis interviewed for 2 1/2 hours by Monte Poole

Davis says Gilbert firing not a shot at McKenzie

On the firing of Zak Gilbert, Mark Davis said, "The next media relations director must completely understand the significance of protecting the shield -- and, moreover, the man who built it and lived it until the day he died."

He also answered questions about a new stadium, the resignation of Amy Trask, a "Raiders Hall of Fame", and more.

Yahoo Sports' Mike Silver tells Raider Nation and NFL fans in general why they should care about the firing of Zak Gilbert

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--raiders-owner-mark-davis-puts-gm-staff-on-notice-with-firing-of-pr-head-014553646.html

Silver has no integrity after he called Mark Davis "Tommy Boy" last year.  This article flat out blows - Silver argues that Hue Jackson was getting the team together then a short while after, explains that McKenzie landed in salary cap hell and was faced with lots of tough decisions.  So which one is it???

Look, I loved the Hue Jax offense.  But let's face that facts, Hue was power hungry and screwed us all over for Carson Palmer.  Also, despite his great offensive mind and seemingly having the organization in his hand - could not get rid/demote Chuck Bresnahan!  Just thinking about that defense makes me want to vomit.  Hue had no control of his players either - he just didn't.

Silver is reaching in this article, IMO.  Like I said earlier, different team fires the PR guy - just a short blurb on NFL.com.

I'm sorry MattyRaider gotta disagree with you on 2 points.

Silver argued that Hue Jackson was getting the team in the right direction but Mark Davis fired Zak Gilbert because he was preaching how McKenzie landed in salary cap position & was faced with tough decisions. I beleve that Mike Silver agreed with that last statement (like anyone would) but the underlying message of Zak Gilbert firing was that there were people in Alamaeda ready to throw the great name Al Davis under the bus and turn McKenzie into some light at the end of the tunnel saviour.

Hue was power hungry and screwed us all over for Carson Palmer.  Also, despite his great offensive mind and seemingly having the organization in his hand - could not get rid/demote Chuck Bresnahan!  Just thinking about that defense makes me want to vomit.

To fire a coach midseason is very rare. If Dennis Allen stuck it out with Greg Knapp then Hue Jackson was always going to wait it out & fire Bresnahan in the offseason. I don't know who was in charge when Bresnahan got the boot but I do remember Hue Jackson telling Rod Woodson his services wouldn't be needed. I assume the defensive co-ordinator was fired before the DB Assistant.

Hue had no control of his players either - he just didn't.

I believe the players were more inclined to play for Hue then Dennis Allen, Don't get me wrong I agree with your statement that Hue had no control of his players (McClain gun incident) but that doesn't nessecarily mean that the players wouldn't play for him.

Dennis Allen was lambasted by Rolando McClain because he didn't respect the head coach. Richard Seymour whom i've always thought of a warrior suddenly had a sore vagina and missed the last 8 or so games because I believe he didn't believe in Dennis Allen. (He had checked out)

Not trying to have a personal gripe at you MattyRaider.. This is just how I interpreted some of your statements.

Cheers

isn't this the same Mike Silver who wrote a few years back that Eddie D was going to buy the Raiders and move them to LA? and wasn't there some Carmen Policy connection too? And we're supposed to believe this guy? That article was pure bullshit, with Silver acting as a tool for Eddie D.

This is a bigger media story than it should be because it's the Raiders.

The haters troll out, along with the hack sportswriters, to quickly say "You see?!! Same 'ol Raiders!'

If this was the PR Director for the Giants, it wouldn't even be a story.

and here's that Sports Illustrated article about the Raiders during Al Davis' final years. This article apparently prompted Mark Davis to send Zak Gilbert home for the last several weeks while he decided his fate. I'm not sure what Mark Davis thought Zak Gilbert had to do with the article, but he must have thought he was somehow responsible for the way the article was written or the information that was in it.

GM McKenzie addressing the media today
Steve Corkran, BayAreaNewsGroup, Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 at 1:37 pm

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie is scheduled to hold a news conference today in Alameda to address the NFL draft, which begins Thursday and runs through Saturday. The Raiders hold the No. 3 pick in the draft, and McKenzie certainly will shed some insight into whether the Raiders intend to keep that pick or trade down in an attempt to acquire more picks.

Soon after the news conference, we will provide some stories on what McKenzie said, what it means and where the Raiders stand moving forward.

We’ll also post the entire transcript from the question-and-answer sessions with Bay Area media. There also will be Tweets from the news conference, so follow @corkonthenfl and @jerrymcd

Raiders Announce Changes in Personnel Department

and the housecleaning continues...Two fired, two retired.

One of the guys who retired, Kent McCloughan, was with the team for 47 years as a player then scout. He made the following statement:

“I had talked to Al Davis when I turned 65,” said McCloughan, who first joined the organization in the mid-1960s as a standout cornerback, “and he said, ‘Listen, young man: You’re not quitting before I do.’ I owe him a lot. He was so nice to my family and me. We had some great years, including when Ron Wolf was with us. We won a lot of games. I had the opportunity to work 47 years with one team. I enjoyed it so much. I thought Al Davis was an outstanding person and boss. I enjoyed the scouting department, the coaches and players I had the opportunity to work with, and I’ll always be a Raider. I’m going out about as good as a person can go out. You couldn’t have written a better story for me. I have the NFL Sunday Ticket, and I’ll still be watching all the games. I might even come out to training camp. I wish Reggie and the entire organization the best.”

Oakland Raiders add Green Bay Packers' Shaun Herock to their front office

The reorganization of the Raiders personnel department will include the hiring of Shaun Herock, who worked with general manager Reggie McKenzie with the Green Bay Packers.

Herock, 41, is the son of Ken Herock, a former Raiders player and executive who assisted the organization in an advisory role in the time immediately following the death of owner Al Davis last Oct. 8.

P.S. My physical therapist, who is a Packers fan....was just telling me two days ago that he had been reading a Packers blog....about concerns that Reggie McKenzie might raid the Packers scouting staff....since he had fired Jon Kingdon. Looks like they had reason to be concerned.

Here's the blog article he was talking about:

and then their followup blog today...after the news that Herock was going to Oakland:

Reggie McKenzie has strong bond with his twin brother

Lots of interesting stuff to learn about Reggie in this article, such as...

On graduation day at Austin-East High School, Reggie McKenzie was the valedictorian, ranked first in his class. (Twin brother) Raleigh was ranked No. 3. "I know this is hard to believe, but Reggie even ran on the four-by-100 relay team,'' said Sam Anderson, who taught and coached at Austin-East and has known the McKenzies since they were in the eighth grade. "They competed against each other very hard, in everything.''

The brothers share a sly sense of humor and enjoyed putting their nearly identical looks to use. "I taught American Government and they tried to see if they could switch on me," Anderson said.  "I'm not sure why it even mattered _ Reginald was making an A-plus and Raleigh had an A-minus. I think they enjoyed just trying to trick me.''

Raiders owner Mark Davis moving team into NFL's modern era

Raiders owner Mark Davis moving team into NFL's modern era

Davis said he is not courting Los Angeles. He emphatically denied a recent report that he joined Southern California developer Ed Roski, who is chasing a franchise for L.A., at a Clippers basketball game.

"I have Clippers season tickets, just like I have Warriors season tickets, but Ed Roski was not sitting with me," he said. "Why would I do that? I wouldn't. That's not how I plan to do things."
