Cedric Benson not expected to sign with Raiders unless we lose an RB to injury
http://www.cincyjungle.com/2012/5/12/3016267/cedric-benson-not-expected-to-sign-with-oakland-raiders-barring

Don't like this.  Jones and Goodson as the perennial back up to a didiculous good RB like DMac...not this fan.  Benson is solid, getting older, but would be solid in a back-up role.  Let's just hope Darren stays healthy.  If he's stays healthy for the whole season anyway, we easily win 9+ games.

Man, I haven't said anything on this blog for a long time. Still here daily though due to Randy's Commitment to Excellence on keeping this site going. Thanks again comrade.

I totally agree with you Matty. Not too impressed with the fact that we do not have a legitimate back up for Run DMC. There's really no logical reason to not get him for the veteran minimum and at least have him come in and compete. There were many good free agents at RB this season that could fill a back up role for a cheap cost and we acted on none. Instead, we traded our freak of nature lineman (Who I was hoping to see possibly used in a Refrigerator Perry situation. I mean, imagine trying to tackle that dude.) to the Panthers for a guy who fumbles a lot. DMC has been known to drop a ball or two also, so well see what the turnovers look like from the ground game.

Raiders Add Free Agent Center Colin Miller

Raiders Add Offensive Lineman Colin Miller

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound Miller was originally signed by the Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Central Michigan in 2011 where he made 46 starts -- all at the center position.

Raiders safety Tyvon Branch signs franchise tender

Raiders strong safety Tyvon Branch signed his franchise free agent tender Monday, guaranteeing him $6.212 million this season.

A starter for the past three seasons and Oakland's leading tackler in 2011, Branch can now participate in the club's offseason. He has until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal which would guarantee him even more money and reduce his salary cap number, enabling the Raiders to sign their own rookie draft picks and add free agents.

Tyvon Branch will sign tender today

Branch, the free agent safety who is the Raiders’ franchise player, will sign his one-year tender offer and report to the team, NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports. That means he’ll get a guaranteed base salary of $6.22 million this season.

Raiders looking at Ryan Grant and Cedric Benson to back up DMac.  Either one of those guys I would be happy with.  However, I lean more toward Benson but seems like the personnel Department here wants guys of sound character and Cedric has had his off the field issues in Cincinnati.  He already has a relationship with Carson and would be playing with a chip on his shoulder, which is always good.  We could sign him for cheap....let's do it ;)

Raiders bring in former Colts backup QB Jim Sorgi for tryout

Sorgi, a sixth-round pick of the Colts in 2004 out of Wisconsin, has appeared in 16 games in his career without a start. He has a career 89.8 passer rating with six touchdowns and one interception while throwing for 929 yards on 99 of 156 passing (63.5 percent).

He has not played in an NFL game since 2009, though, and was on Injured Reserve with the New York Giants in 2010.

Free Agent LB Phillip Wheeler on his way to see the Raiders

LB Phillip Wheeler to visit Raiders

Philip Wheeler, considered one of the bright spots on a poor Indianapolis Colts defense in 2011, said Thursday on his Twitter account he is making a free agent visit to the Raiders.

Wheeler, 27, would be a candidate to replace Kamerion Wimbley, released last week when he declined to accept a pay cut, as the starting strong side linebacker.

"On my way to Oakland to see the Raiders," Wheeler tweeted Thursday morning. "Which team would be a better fit for me this season? This is a tuff career choice."

Per ESPN -

NFL.com reports the Raiders are visiting with Colts’ free agent linebacker Phillip Wheeler. He started games last season and he had 84 tackles. If he comes cheaply, he could be the player the Raiders plug into the starting lineup.

Also, long-time Raiders trainer George Anderson passed away this morning at 82.  Rest in Peace.

Raiders sign CB Pat Lee from Green Bay
"Lee was almost exclusively a special teams player last season. He had just one defensive tackle and was targeted just once all season in pass coverage. He will likely compete with last year's draft picks, DeMarcus Van Dyke and Chimdi Chekwa, for playing time."

Anyone know if Porter has come to town for a visit? With the the additions we've made so far at CB and if we land Porter I think we have a serviceable CB core. I read last night that Yermiah Bell was released from the Phins. He's a beast against the run and has suspect coverage skills but would love to see us entertain bringing him in for a visit.

The article on Sunday said the Raiders were bringing him in, "within the next couple of days." So maybe today? tomorrow at the latest I would think.

I thought he was actually in Oakland yesterday???  :o
This article says he's visiting Denver tomorrow. The only thing it says about the Raiders is that they showed interest.

Looks like he's now visiting Denver.  His visit has been postponed after the the spencer signing....ARRGGHHH

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/20/broncos-next-on-tracy-porters-free-agent-tour/

Pure speculation on my part but I wonder if the Raiders have postponed his Oakland visit until after they wait and see if he is a player that will end up being suspended as a result of bounty gate? He's visited a number of teams now with no contract and at this point seems to be the top CB remaining right now in free agency. I'm sure DA has some insight in his involvement with bounty gate....

Just read that with the signing of Spencer the visit for Porter was postphoned.  Now dude is visiting with the Donks.....go figure.  I am pleased with our CB signings, but was hoping we would have also landed Porter as well.  The only thing we would need to draft is a TE, another CB, S, and LB's.  I'm hoping we land a half decent LB seeing that we are toying with going to 3-4....we need them.  We lost Trevor Scott to the Pats....and Gallery signed with the Pats too.  Finally Wimbley signed a 35 million 5 year gig with the Titans.  No news on Bush....hoping that we can re-sign him.  I wouldn't mind us taking a look at Yeremiah Bell for a backup Safety spot.

M. Bush has visited with the Seaducks and Bears. Does he really think he'll get more playing time behind M. Lynch and M. Forte? Based on RUN DMC's injury past he's surely to get more playing time with us. I hope his agent gives us an option to match an other he receives.  The longer he stays on the market it could increase our chances in resigning him. Considering he's still on the market he obviously hasn't received a blockbuster $ contract.

As details emerge of Wimbley's deal (5yr 35 mill) with the titans it looks like he's getting a larger paycut than what has been reported the Raiders were asking in restructure. Surely if he wanted to be a Raider he would have for that amount of $$. Oh well.....

Which free agent will Raiders replace Wimbley with?
SF Chronicle

http://blog.sfgate.com/raiders/2012/03/19/do-raiders-replace-wimbley-in-free-agency/?gta=commentlistpos#commentlistpos

Dont forget that we will have Matt Shaughnessy back who in my mind always played like a beast when he was on the field and was going to be a starter and was just lost due to a major injury. Wimbley was good and was listed as a OLB but did most of his work as a DE on the line. Once we get Matt back that will take care of that issue and we will just need to find us a descent OLB in FA for the other side of McClain and Curry

Im liking these pick-ups, good natural cover corners that are big and can size up to most WRs. I dont understand why these articles tho say were done. I feel we should still sign Tracy Porter. Would give us three vets and two 2nd years corners then add Huff, Mitchell, and Branch then i would say that our secondary is set and we can move on too a OLB and resigning BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!
