Raiders stay defensive, sign DT Vance Walker

Raiders stay defensive, sign DT Vance Walker

Vance Walker signs his contract.

The Oakland Raiders have signed unrestricted free agent defensive tackle Vance Walker, General Manager Reggie McKenzie announced Monday.

Walker, who played the past four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, is the sixth free agent signed by the Raiders since Tuesday, all on the defensive side of the ball.

The 6-foot-2, 305-pound Walker, entering his fifth NFL season, has played in 58 career games with 11 starts, totaling five sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery since entering the league as the Falcons’ seventh-round draft choice (210th overall) in 2009.

In 2012, Walker started a career-high nine games and posted career bests with 32 tackles (21 solo) and three sacks.

Jake Long signs with the Rams

Jake Long agrees to terms with Rams
ProFootballTalk.com

The first overall pick in the 2008 draft has decided where he’ll be playing for the next four years.  And it won’t be in the city where he has spent the last five.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, tackle Jake Long has agreed to terms with the Rams.

Long picked the Rams over the Dolphins, who made a late push to keep Long after his multi-day visit to St. Louis ended.

It’s a four-year deal, with a base value of $34 million, for an average of $8.5 million annually.  With incentives, the deal can reach $36 million.

The deal has $16 million fully guaranteed, with another $4 million that will become fully guaranteed in 2014.

We allowed Shaunessey go to the fucking red birds on a measley 1 year contract, are you FUCKING kidding me?!?!? Now Wheeler  & Bryant both signed multi year million dollar contracts so their cases are somewhat more acceptable but you're telling me that we couldn't give #77 what the cardinals offered??? Get the fuck outta here!!! Honestly I'm starting to think, just by these moves here & letting bush go last season, that Allen & McK are running around Alemeda like two chickens with there heads chopped off. I mean seriously maaaan can we keep good players on THIS team. I'm pissed!!!

 http://www.csnbayarea.com/blog/paul-gutierrez/report-shaughnessy-headed-arizona

No one is safe on this team.  Any players we fans think are *good* on this team mean nothing to this management.  Reggie and Allen want THEIR OWN PLAYERS in their own vision of what they want as a team.  I liked Shaughnessy too but he is an average DE.  Dude, us Raider fans have been starving for quality for so long decent players seem like diamonds.  We were 4-12 last year, EVERYONE is replaceable.

Raiders agree to terms with Chicago Bears LB Nick Roach
Jerry McDonald, BayAreaNewsGroup

The Raiders reportedly signed Roach to a "multi-year deal worth between $3 Million and $4 Million per year". Roach has been a starting linebacker with the Bears since 2008, mostly on the strong side but has seen some time in the middle. There had been talk of the Raiders moving Miles Burris to the middle, but now Roach is expected to play that position. The Bears wanted to resign him, but were having salary cap problems. The last link below has a video of a Bears beat writer saying he would pick Nick Roach over Brian Urlacher if the Bears could only keep one LB.

The Oakland Raiders have added three unrestricted free agents, signing DE Jason Hunter, LB Kaluka Maiava and DT Pat Sims. General Manager Reggie McKenzie made the announcement Wednesday.

“We’re excited to add three veterans through free agency,” McKenzie said, “helping to create depth and competition on defense. We’ll continue to add free agents as the opportunity surfaces.”

Kaluka Maiava (USC, 4th RD) - ILB 6'0", 240 lbs - 4 seasons with Cleveland Browns

Person close to Brady "beyond enraged" with Patriots losing Welker to Broncos. "Disgrace" - "Disservice"
ProFootballTalk.com

Remember, Brady just renegotiated his contract with the Patriots for millions less than his market value, just to help out the Patriots' salary cap situation so they could resign their other free agents. Then the Patriots let Welker go to the Broncos for a 2 yr, $12 Mill contract? Several QBs are making around $20 Mil a year, and Brady negotiated a contract extension for $9 Mil per year, freeing up $15 Million in cap space. Then the Patriots are too cheap to pay Welker $6 Mil per year. I'll bet Brady isn't too happy himself.

Wow Huff got cut. Other than that DHB and tollefson were not surprises but huff is very surprising

That was a bit surprising.  I liked Huff but but he was average.  I started to get pissed but then I thought how many times I screamed at the TV when that joker missed tackles with his crocodile arms.  I am not in freak out mode (yet).  The contracts for Huff and DHB were too high for subpar play.  As for Bryant and Wheeler....would have loved to keep them but look at their new contracts!  They are insane!  We couldn't afford them anyways.  I am waiting to see how this all shakes out before I flip the f*ck out.

Update on Raiders moves in terms of salary cap - $16 Mil Under
Steve Corkran, BayAreaNewsGroup

...Raiders have $16 million in cap space for 2013, even though they have an astonishing $32 million in dead money — money accounted for on players no longer on the roster...

For those wondering why the Raiders didn’t cut McClain on Tuesday, it’s simple: They didn’t have to and there’s still a chance, albeit slim, that another team will pony up a late-round draft pick for McClain.
Hey, it’s worth a shot.
