I am really liking what Reggie is doing this off-season. To be honest, would have loved to get Desean Jackson but I am okay with passing on him. I suspect he wanted to exact revenge on the Eagles twice a season for cutting him. Can't blame the guy. The top five WRs in this year's draft class are immediate starters. So we shall see. All I know is that Reggie has been doing his job, we will see if DA does his...........

We got former Niners CB Carlos Rogers. How does anyone feel about that?

I like the move. We've been getting better and better this offseason. Older and older, but better and better.

Here's one opinion on the Carlos Rogers move...and the Raiders' free agency strategy this off-season:
http://youtu.be/9XU1kkHHiMA
The older older part to me is fine because Reddie is smart and only locing these players up for  1 2 max 3 years. So we are not "stuck" with them. they are here to get us over the hump, change this locker room, and help our talented young guns. I am loving this offseason

What is your vote?

Does he have concerning gang ties? Bay Area reporter Monte Poole says he went to San Quentin prison three years ago with DeSean to visit the inmates. He wrote this interesting article about the event entitied, "DeSean Jackson Walks With Gangsters". Read it if you haven't already and see what you think about DeSean and his "gang ties".

"DeSean Jackson Walks With Gangsters"
http://www.csnbayarea.com/raiders/desean-jackson-walks-gangsters

After reading the article, I have to say that I wouldn't be concerned. He seems to understand the consequences of gang-related behavior and is aware that he shouldn't go there (and empathizes with people who have gotten caught up in it). I can understand why the Eagles released him -- it's an image thing -- but if he landed with the Raiders, I'd be fine with it.

I feel the same way you do Raider G, after reading the article. Latest reports say Jackson has an interest in the Raiders, they were his favorite team growing up, he went to school nearby at Cal, etc. I hope the Raiders go for it.

I still don't understand though how the media keeps talking about how much cap money we have and how we can afford to offer him more than other teams. We have about $14 Million cap space left I believe, and we still have to sign whoever we draft. Does that seem like we have plenty of money to offer him, more than other teams?

I read we have an adjusted $19 million cap space available.

Thanks Oscar. I hope that is the accurate, up-to-date figure. The two sites I have below show different numbers, maybe out of date?

SpoTrac shows $15,454,199:                  http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/oakland-raiders/

OverTheCap.com shows $14,681,081:     http://overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Raiders&Year=2014

Re: Should the Raiders sign Maurice Jones-Drew? What do you guys think?
« Reply #277 on: March 28, 2014, 08:31:19 AM »
Reports are that Jones-Drew wants to get a deal with the Raiders done fast. Do you guys think it's a good idea? I think I heard he wants $3.5 Million for a year. He's 28 years old.

The Jets, Dolphins, Patriots and Steelers are reportedly interested in Jones-Drew.

You think a Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden tandem would be effective? Would Jones-Drew be better than Rashard Jennings was?

Here is his Twitter feed if you want to send him a message:

I think they should minus the injuries (that we gave him) if i remember right his best days were under Greg Olson. It adds veteran depth that will help Murray (who i think can be a star once healthy) and we know that he can play. A good back-up/ split timer to D-mac. Again... pending his physical.. lmao. If they all three come around that will be one hell of a trio in the backfield.

Re: NFL FREE AGENCY - Jared Allen offered most money by the Raiders
« Reply #275 on: March 27, 2014, 07:53:18 AM »
This simple fact that this article is stating that we actually went after Allen behind closed doors and actually offered him a contract bigger than anyone elses say a lot to me. This new org is out and after it like we all wanted them to be. they are going after not just big named players(there were plenty out there) but big name players that will OBVIOUSLY make a positive impact on our team. That is the reason i am starting to get excited already about this team. Now we wait to see how they handle this draft.

we got cotton swab (aka q-tip) for a 6th round pick. is he that much worse than palmer? we gave up the farm for him. compared to hue jack blowing his load for palmer, veggie looks cool, calm, and collected in trading for swab.

****On a side note Bill Williamson of espn is a effing SPAZZ. You talk about some one who obviously has a dislike for the Raiders. His article " Schaub is not the next Gannon". No ISH Sherlock, who in the hell was out there saying he was. So what the point of writing the whole article about that i have no idea other than to be a D-Bag. He needs to stop writing about the Raiders in general and move on. Funny how the people on NFL network think this a def a good move for the Raiders for is is an upgrade to what we had.

I just read Bill's article. And then I did a little research. If you look at Gannon's stats when he was with the Chiefs, before the Raiders picked him up, he wasn't doing as great as Schaub did with Houston previous to the bad season he had last year. Gannon didn't catch fire until he became a Raider. I wonder if Bill actually knew that or if he was just thinking that Gannon was that great before the Raiders brought him on.

And now I feel even better about the Schaub deal. We may have our QB here.  :)

My take - Andre Johnson made Schaub look good in Houston, Sammy Watkins can do the same for us. Unless we go after Jackson, Watkins should be the pick and i'd rather go with the latter option.

We can get a project qb later, Aaron Murray would be a decent bet.

All of a sudden it seems like Mckenzie at least has a plan, how clever it is we won't know until this team steps out on the field.

Glad we got Schaub... (regardless of his college background)... I was rooting for Reggie, had he used anything other than a late round draft pick on this, I would have been pretty upset. Palmer and Schaub are probably not that different when it comes to where they are in their careers, however, we shit the bed on the Palmer trade by giving up EVERYTHING... for this, we basically gave up a pick that would have been used on a guy that wouldn't have made it past the first cut. I definitely see that there is some logic in what VeggieMac is doing. AT LEAST compared to what we've been through in the past.

Our team is however turning into a retirement home... but building from the draft is what it's all about. Trade UP, not DOWN... get Clowney. That's a decent team. Bring in Incognito's racist ass, maybe some WR help. But bring in these old folks and build from the draft. Old folks teaching the young. Not bad.

DeSean Jackson?
« Reply #270 on: March 21, 2014, 02:48:02 PM »
Also heard Raiders inquiring about DeSean....don't know about this.  He's a bit of a diva but he can ball.  Got some roots here playing at Cal too.  Don't know.  Got some nice veterans now to keep an ego like that in line.  I read that Eagles wanted a 2nd for him though........hell no to that.  Reggie gotta wheel and deal to make it favorable if that was an option.  Thoughts?

GREAT pick-up.  Schaub was the best FA QB out there.  He had a bad season last year....so what...dude has thrown over 4K yards for multiple seasons.  He's a good QB.  I also like that now that we have Schaub, that opens up tons of options for the #5 pick.  Do we draft Watkins?  Him, Schaub, Jones, Streater Holmes?  NIIIIIICE.  Do we trade it back?  Pick up more picks and draft a monster ass DT like Aaron Donald or another stud WR like Mike Evans?  Does Clowney fall to us?  I AM LOVING THIS.

We're getting Schaub! Great pick-up.  8)

I think it is too. I hope this means we wont test one of these QBs in the draft and we go wih something else. He is better and more proven than any of our QBs on team so i do think it is an improvement for now.

Call me crazy, but I'd love to see Sanchez in the Silver & Black. I think he showed a lot of promise early on but stumbled later because... eh, it's the Jets, what else was gonna happen there?

AW HELL NAW! C'mon man.  Though I do think a change of scenery would do Sanchez good, his buttfumble fiasco will follow him for the rest of his career.  I want the circus show to end in Oakland.  I am tired of being the butt of NFL jokes.

That's really no reason to not sign him. It was one play. Sure, it was funny as hell, but still, it's really not something to evaluate the guy on. If he's the best QB of what's available (and I believe he is), we should sign him and we should welcome him. The circus in Oakland is about the past decade of suckage, not about anyone doing anything worth a laugh. I haven't been laughing for the past 10 years anyway.

Either way, I agree that Reggie's doing a solid job and I think we'll be improved this year. Whoever he brings in at QB, I won't complain.

Woodson just signed on for another year last night!  RAIDER FOR LIFE!

So after this week I am seeing two main holes. QB and DT... Which one are you guys thinking they will go for in the draft? Do yall really want to pick up a QB in the draft? I hope they can drop down and possibly pick up afirst round DT, maybe like a Nix from ND or even Jernigan from FL State as well as picking up extra draft picks.

I agree with the two holes left.  I think not only the best DT, but one of the best actual players in this year's draft is Aaron Donald from Pitt.  He'd be a great selection.  As for QBs, I love Bortles size but honestly I'm not sold on any QB in this year's draft class.  I think we bring a veteran in---I'd like to see Schaub, Fitzpatrick or even Campbell back again.

OL Kevin Boothe from NYG in Alameda today.  Gotta get an LT still due the Saffold/Veldheer mess.  Reggie also meeting with DE/LB Rob Jackson of the Skins and DE Alex Carrington formerly of the Bills.  Jackson is a very underrated player....don't know much about Carrington.  I LOVE the signing of Tarel Thomas, stole that mofo from right under the Niners noses as well as the rest of the league.  He's been the starting right corner for SF the past 4 years!  The mainstream media can eat a bowl of dicks at this point.

From a Vic Tafur article yesterday:
“Veldheer, who signed a five-year deal for $35 million dollars with the Cardinals Tuesday. Veldheer’s mom says the Raiders never made a comparable offer, while league sources said Veldheer made clear to the Raiders early on that he didn’t want to come back unless it was for a huge offer.”

He wanted out or wanted us to break the bank on him. He showed no loyalty so either did we. So stop calling for Reggie's head.

FUCK HIM.  He's gone.  He's dead to me.

Signed Austin Howard from Jets last night, really good RT, only gave up 2 sacks last year....Sparano coached him in NY so I know Tony got in Reg's ear to get him.

Justin Tuck and Lamarr Woodley coming in today.  Sign them.  We have no D-Line!

Veldheer to Cardinals
Houston to Bears
Jennings to Giants

OL Saffold to Raiders from Rams
RB McFadden stays with Raiders on 1y deal
OL Howard visiting Raiders from Jets
RB Brown from Giants getting interest from Raiders
WR Decker from Donkeys may be in talks with Raiders

ok So with Houston gone i am terrified of our D-line. Do you guys think we should go after Jared Allen or peppers or even bring back matt shaughnessy(think he is a FA)?

I realize we are going for youth and rebuilding the team the right way but this is a great signing for us!  Woodson and Branch will be one of the best combos in the league.  And who could be better to help Hayden and these other young corners learn the ropes??!!

Heard about it on the news at work, grins galore...hey Elway, hows that feel? ;D

I'm very happy with our progress this offseason.  No we haven't been able to address our D-line issues like we had hoped but we have a lot of youth and even more heart going into this season.  It will be exciting for sure and I can't wait!

Excited he's back! Now where did I put his jersey? I hope I didn't give it to Good Will like I did with my Randy Moss jersey...lol

I can nearly almost forget about last year due to yesterday's signing of Woodson and the productive off-season we're having so far....let's keep our players healthy, out of trouble, and JUST WIN BABY!!!

I have been reading CWood's Twitter page and the articles about him coming to Raiders HQ today.  Would love to be there!  I still have an Authentic Away jersey for Woodson....come home my man!  Always a hardworker and classy guy.  Woodson still has skills and most importantly, he would bring a great veteran presence in the locker room.
